All Shook Up. A musical comedy built around a number of songs made famous by Elvis Presley. It’s not a biographical revue, but rather a tale of mistaken identity and romance inspired by Twelfth Night and other Shakespearean comedies. It’s 1955, and into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing roustabout who changes everything and everyone he meets in this hip-swiveling musical fantasy. Among the 24 songs featured in the score are classics like “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Love Me Tender,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” and of course the title tune. A concert laden with stories and lore, songs, hula, and chant, themed around the natural environment, featuring the elements of nature: air, clouds, wind, the realm of mountains, ocean, and rain. Oli, hula, and song will describe the wonder of birds (manu); fish (ia); the forest (nahele); and pua including plants and flowers. Inspired by the verses of the song “Ke Ao Nani,” which many locals learn as keiki, the series highlights the balance of opposites in the natural world, which is so strongly expressed in Hawaiian culture.
